Kathmandu — Nepali Communist Party Leader Durga Prasad Chapagain has proposed moving forward with party unity with the Communist Party of Nepal -Unified Marxist Leninist.

According to central committee member Chapagain, the two parties have no alternative but to move ahead together after suffering an embarrassing defeat in the House of Representatives election held on Falgun 21.

Writing on social media on Sunday, Chapagain said that communist forces should conduct a serious review and immediately begin the process of unity.

Chapagain stated, “Taking lessons from the experience of West Bengal, let us carry out a serious review among communist forces—including the Communist Party of Nepal and CPN-UML—and immediately initiate the process of unity.”

In the election, traditional parties—including the Nepali Congress, UML and the CPN—managed only to preserve their existence.
