Two days of rain leave 52 dead, five missing

Kathmandu – Over two days (Saturday and Sunday) of rain have triggered floods and landslides, resulting in 52 deaths so far.

On Tuesday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority announced in a press conference that Ilam district has suffered the highest death toll of 37 people.

Deaths have also been reported as follows: one in Panchthar, one in Kavrepalanchok; two each in Udayapur and Dhanusha; and one each in Khotang, Morang, Sunsari, Rautahat, and Bhojpur.

According to the Authority’s Executive Director Dinesh Prasad Bhatt, 39 died due to landslides and 11 died in flooding.

Additionally, two people died from lightning in Rautahat. Presently, five people are missing — four in Rasuwa and one in Ilam.

Forty-seven people have been injured in the floods and landslides.
