Kathmandu – The inquiry commission formed to investigate the events of the Gen Z movement of 23 and 24 Bhadra has urged the government to impose a travel ban on the police chief who was relieved last night, Chandrakuber Khapung, and to ensure he cannot leave the Kathmandu Valley without approval.

In its Thursday meeting the commission requested this on the grounds that he may be summoned for investigation and questioning at any time. “Since he may be required to appear before the commission at any time, the decision has been made to instruct the relevant bodies to impose a travel ban abroad and to prevent departure from the Kathmandu Valley without approval,” the commission said in its issued statement.

It also encouraged that if there are any details of damages they be made available via the commission’s email.

Khapung had retired due to completion of 30 years of service. He had assumed the responsibility of police chief on Bhadra 19. On Bhadra 23 – just four days after taking up the role – 19 young people died from police bullets during the Gen Z protest in front of the Parliament building.

On 24 and 24 [sic] of Bhadra the Gen Z movement resulted in 76 deaths nationwide. The commission formed in relation to these events is conducting the investigation. The police are also under scrutiny.
