Biratnagar – Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar has begun demolishing structures built under its ownership.

After a prolonged dispute, various organizations started demolishing illegally constructed structures within the hospital premises from early Monday morning, led by the District Administration Office.

These structures housed various businesses, including pharmacies, snack shops, and photo studios.

According to the hospital administration, the first phase involves demolishing 26 unauthorized commercial shutters built in the hospital area.

For this purpose, the hospital had already marked the shutters to be demolished with red crosses a few days ago.

On Monday morning, the shutters were demolished in the presence of Assistant Chief District Officer of Morang, Saroj Koirala, Medical Superintendent of Koshi Hospital Dr. Chandrabhal Jha, and teams from the Armed Police Force and District Police Office Morang.

Dr. Chandrabhal Jha, the Medical Superintendent, stated that they had been requesting the organizations to vacate the structures for a long time, and after they were vacated, the demolition was carried out using bulldozers.

He mentioned that the hospital plans to immediately build a wall to include the demolished area within its premises.

Dr. Jha said, “We will construct a boundary wall to secure the structures now under the hospital’s ownership. Construction will begin soon. We have also requested the remaining structures to be vacated promptly.”

Currently, structures of the Tuberculosis Eradication Institution Morang, Red Cross Blood Bank, and Devkota Library remain within the hospital’s ownership.

Providing further details, Dr. Jha said, “We have already informed the Tuberculosis Office. If they wish to continue their operations, they must manage a suitable location soon or hand over the structures to the hospital, after which we will operate the institution ourselves.”

During the process of vacating the hospital area structures, Health and Sanitation Minister Nisha Mehta and Home Minister Sudhan Gurung conducted an on-site inspection on Ashadh 21.

During the visit, Home Minister Gurung directly communicated with the pharmacy operators working there, instructing them to completely vacate the structures within seven days.
