Kathmandu — Nepali Congress leader Dr. Sunil Sharma has claimed that senior leader Shekhar Koirala has already agreed to move forward in coordination with Gagan Thapa.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday while attending a gathering of the Shekhar Koirala faction of the Nepali Congress in Kathmandu, Sharma made the assertion publicly.

Sharma said that members of the Koirala family, who have made immense sacrifices for the party, are prepared to make any sacrifice necessary to keep the Nepali Congress united. He noted that the family had endured years of imprisonment and the loss of personal assets in the struggle to build the party.

According to Sharma, senior leader Koirala will play a key role in unifying the faction recognised by the Election Commission with the Deuba-led group. He stressed that the Koirala family does not wish to see the party divided and is committed to preserving it, even at great personal cost.

Sharma also claimed that party president Gagan Thapa is equally committed to party unity. He added that, to secure electoral victory, all factions of the Nepali Congress have no alternative but to unite under Thapa’s leadership.
