RSP Says It Is Taking Rautahat Campaign-Vehicle Death of Young Girl Very Seriously

Kathmandu – The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has said it is taking seriously the incident in Rautahat in which a four-year-old girl was killed after being struck by a vehicle used during an election campaign.

In a press release issued on Friday, RSP General Secretary Kavindra Burlakoti said the party is shocked and deeply pained by the death of four-year-old Alpha Khatun, who was hit by a vehicle being used by the party’s candidate Sheikh Sagir in Rautahat Constituency No. 2.

The statement said: “The party is extremely saddened by the news of the untimely death of a minor as a result of being struck by a vehicle used in the course of an election campaign. At this tragic time, we offer heartfelt condolences to the deceased and express deep sympathy to the bereaved family. The party is taking the incident very seriously and is committed to fully cooperating with local administration for an objective investigation.”

General Secretary Burlakoti also said the party will take necessary steps to advance the legal process and ensure justice for the victim’s family. Efforts are also underway to provide relief and support to the family.

He further stated that candidates and responsible party members have been instructed to exercise heightened caution when operating and using vehicles and to prioritize safety and security going forward.

The accident occurred Thursday afternoon in Mathia Tol, Ishnath Municipality-4, Rautahat. The vehicle registered in the name of RSP candidate Sheikh Sagir struck the four-year-old girl. Candidate Sagir has said he was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

After the accident, the injured child was taken in the same vehicle to Gaur City Hospital, where she died during treatment. The driver, 27-year-old Sheikh Mustakh from Paroha Municipality, who fled the scene after the crash, was taken into police custody on Thursday.
