Oranges valued around Rs 3 billion produced in Gandaki Province this year

Gandaki Province produced 55,935 metric tonnes of oranges this year valued around Rs 2.7 billion, according to the Provincial Agriculture Development Directorate.

Among the nine highest orange producing districts in the Province, Syangja produced 15,180 metric tonnes while Lamjung recorded only 715 metric tonnes, said the Directorate

The hilly areas of the Province, known as pocket area for orange production, recorded 10 per cent increase in its annual yield, overwhelming the farmers.

The 30 per cent oranges are yet to be plucked and sold. The price farmers are currently charging Rs 50 per kilogramme said Directorate’s Chief Basudev Regmi adding that those left in the plants and kept in the old stores later amount to handsome prices.
