Kathmandu – Chairman Chandraprasad Dhakal of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has made it clear that the private sector is still not in a position to invest with confidence.

At the “Cooperation and Collective Initiative for Peace, Stability, and Prosperity” event organized by FNCCI on Wednesday, Dhakal said the investment environment has not been created and urged the government to build a conducive atmosphere for investment.

He stated that the private sector has not been able to operate freely due to policy obstacles, cumbersome procedures, and a lack of a business-friendly environment. According to Dhakal, even the general public holds negative perceptions toward the private sector, and recent incidents of arson and vandalism have further dampened confidence.

Dhakal emphasized that until investors feel secure and guaranteed unfettered freedom to do business and protection of their property, investment will not flow into the country. He added that lack of action against those involved in destructive acts has fostered a sense of impunity.

He also said that the private sector desires political commitment and hopes that timely elections will help establish stability.
