Kathmandu – Communist of Party of Nepal -Unified Marxist Leninist  Chair and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli has accused what he called “anti-state elements” of creating chaos and then wrongly blaming him for violence during nationwide unrest last year.

Speaking to supporters from Jhapa, Oli referenced the violent protests of Bhadra 23 and 24, during which demonstrators clashed with authorities and fires broke out, leading to deaths and widespread destruction. He said he had been aware of the possibility of unrest but was unable to prevent it entirely.

Oli claimed that those who set fires and committed killings during the unrest were now pointing fingers at him, labeling him a “murderer,” a “conspirator” and other derogatory terms in an effort to tarnish the country’s reputation.

In his remarks, he rejected accusations that the prime minister ordered security forces to fire on protesters, saying the head of government “cannot simply give an order to shoot.” He characterized anyone asserting that as either “foolish or criminal.” Oli urged the public to understand what he described as the truth behind the events, despite what he said was persistent misinformation.

The protests he referenced, driven by the Gen Z movement and opposition to government policies, at one point turned violent and led to his resignation as prime minister.
