New Chinese Ambassador Zhang Arrives in Kathmandu

Kathmandu — China’s newly appointed ambassador to Nepal, Zhang Maoming, arrived in Kathmandu on Friday, marking the formal start of his diplomatic mission following the completion of his predecessor’s tenure.

Zhang, previously a deputy director-general in the Asian Affairs Department of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, landed at Tribhuvan International Airport aboard an Air China flight and was welcomed by officials from the Chinese Embassy and Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Upon arrival, he shared on social media that it is “a great honour” to serve as the **23rd Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal,” and expressed his appreciation for the warm reception from the Nepali people, as well as his admiration for Nepal’s beauty and vitality. Zhang pledged to work alongside his colleagues and Nepali partners to advance bilateral exchanges, practical cooperation, and the China-Nepal Strategic Partnership of Cooperation Featuring Everlasting Friendship for Development and Prosperity.”

He succeeds Chen Song, who returned to China after completing his three-year tenure. Zhang is expected to formally present his credentials to Nepal’s president in the coming days before fully assuming his diplomatic duties.
