The Nepali Congress has called a meeting of its Central Working Committee amid an ongoing dispute over whether to hold a special general convention.

On Thursday, the party’s Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel announced that the meeting has been scheduled for 4 p.m. today, though he did not disclose the agenda.

The session will be held at the party’s central office, BP Smriti Bhawan, in Lalitpur, and officials and members of the Central Working Committee have been urged to attend.

Supporters of a special convention, including General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, have called for such a meeting on December 27–28. Meanwhile, the party’s establishment faction has rejected the proposal and urged members not to participate.

The dispute over holding or cancelling the special convention has deepened divisions within the Nepali Congress, raising concerns that the party could split. However, Thapa and Sharma insist the party will not break apart and that a special general convention is necessary to operate according to party statutes.
