Nepal hosts first nuclear medicine conference at Birat Teaching Hospital

Morang – A nuclear medicine conference aimed at enhancing the skills of doctors is set to take place at Birat Teaching Hospital in Budhiganga Rural Municipality, Morang. According to Dr. Amardeep Chaudhary, head of the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Department at the hospital, the conference will begin on Saturday and will facilitate extensive discussions among doctors, directly benefiting local physicians and patients. He stated that this nuclear medicine treatment marks the beginning of a new era in treating serious conditions like cancer.

Dr. Chaudhary mentioned that this is the first time such a conference is being held in Nepal, with participation from doctors from Nepal, India, and Bangladesh. He also noted that the necessary HIPEC service for treating abdominal cancer has already been launched in the province for the first time at Birat.

The conference, titled “International Conference on Nuclear Medicine BMCTH,” will be held under the theme “Imaging Today, Impacting Tomorrow.” It will bring together doctors to discuss topics such as molecular imaging, theranostics, and radioisotope therapy.

Participants from Bangladesh include Prof. Dr. Mizanul Hasan, Dr. Molla Abdul Wahab, Prof. Dr. Sanowar Hussain, Prof. Dr. Faria Narsin, and Prof. Dr. Jasmin Ara Haque. From India, Prof. Dr. Manoj Gupta from RGCIRC, New Delhi will attend. Nepali participants include Dr. Amardeep Chaudhary (BMCTH), Dr. Suman Shrestha, Dr. Sagar Maharjan, and Dr. Sudhir KC, who will share their experiences and knowledge.

According to Dr. Chaudhary, nuclear medicine is a branch of modern medical science that uses radioactive substances to examine and treat the functioning of internal organs. It aids in the early detection of cancer, checks blood flow in the heart, diagnoses bone diseases, and reduces thyroid-related issues.

The conference is expected to see participation from over 250 individuals from various parts of Nepal, including Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Jhapa, Sunsari, and Morang.
