The government is preparing to arrest another former Finance Minister, Janardan Sharma. On Monday, UML Vice President Bishnu Poudel, who has served as Finance Minister six times, was arrested in Surkhet for investigation related to money laundering charges.

Immediately after, a high-level police source informed that preparations are underway to bring Sharma under investigation by arresting him as well.

It is claimed that there is a possibility of investigating Sharma for allegedly writing to the central bank to release NPR 400 million brought from America by Prithvi Bahadur Shah.

During Sharma’s tenure as Finance Minister, he had given written instructions to the central bank to release the undisclosed amount brought by Shah from America.

When then-Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari refused to release the large undisclosed amount, a conflict arose between the two. As a result, Sharma removed Adhikari from his position.

However, following a Supreme Court order, Adhikari was reinstated. Alongside this, preparations are being made to investigate Sharma in connection with money laundering charges, according to the source.
