Kathmandu – Nepali Congress’s Central Work Execution Committee meeting has begun.

The meeting started Friday afternoon at the party’s central office in Sanepa amid ongoing disputes over the party’s general convention. The session was called as controversy surrounds internal differences on how and when to hold the party’s 15th general convention.

General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma issued a joint statement on Thursday announcing the postponement of the regular convention schedule, which has increased tensions within the party.

In response, President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s faction convened the Work Execution Committee meeting. Leaders from both sides engaged in internal discussions before the meeting began.

Supporters of the regular convention have criticised the general secretaries’ decision as unilateral, while proponents of a special general convention argue it is necessary to uphold the party statute and address the current organisational situation.
