Kathmandu — Nepali Congress leader Chandra Bhandari has advised General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa not to resign on moral grounds.

Bhandari shared his views through social media at a time when discussions about resignation have intensified following the results of recent by-elections and internal party electoral outcomes.

He stated that the current moment is not the time to step down and walk away from responsibility, but rather a time to protect and strengthen the organization by fulfilling one’s duties.

Arguing that the recent electoral process within the Nepali Congress was not regular, Bhandari said that instead of resigning, it would be more appropriate, responsible, and timely for Thapa to move quickly toward holding a general convention.

“In the current situation, saving the Nepali Congress is itself a moral responsibility,” Bhandari said. Acknowledging the harsh reality that the younger generation is increasingly leaving the party, he stressed that the party needs to be treated and healed rather than abandoned in this critical moment.

Commenting that morality has become scarce in Nepali politics, Bhandari emphasized the need for new thinking, new leadership, and the planting of new political seeds.

He said that running away from problems is not the duty of true leadership, and that the primary responsibility is to fix the issues and protect the organization. According to him, reviving the Nepali Congress is still possible if the leadership shows the willpower and courage to do so.
