Kathmandu — Janardan Sharma, leader of the Progressive Democratic Party and candidate from Rukum West, has said he is ready to fulfill a “new dream” of prosperity for Rukum.

Addressing a door-to-door election campaign, Sharma said that in the past the struggle was for rights, and now the next phase should be focused entirely on development and prosperity. He reminded people how Rukum used to be in a situation where even making a phone call required paying Rs 50 to charge it, but now conditions have improved.

Sharma outlined his main plan to establish a 300-bed hospital with a medical college in Rukum, saying it would benefit not only Rukum but also neighboring districts like Jajarkot, Salyan, Rolpa, and Eastern Surkhet. He said coordination with Mid-Western University is underway for this project.

Focusing on local youth, he also pledged to build sports fields including cricket grounds, and promote sports as a profession. He emphasized completing the “one house, one tap” campaign and building a society grounded in good governance.

While asking for votes, Sharma described himself as a “worker” and referred to the people as the “owners.”

In his address, he recalled past commitments made in Parliament since 2064 B.S., saying those promises included building road networks to every village, ending the need to carry heavy loads manually, extending transport access, ending darkness by providing electricity everywhere, bringing water directly into homes, and expanding health services from local clinics to larger hospitals. He said that while progress has been made, especially in health services, more needs to be done — including developing a big hospital and a medical college to provide as many treatments as possible locally.

He said that efforts like the “one house, one tap” initiative are underway and progressing in line with the slogan he and his supporters have championed.
