Kathmandu — Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has pledged to carry out his duties with impartiality and independence.

Addressing the House of Representatives on Monday, Aryal said that although he was elected to Parliament through a political party and chosen as Speaker, he would uphold the dignity of the office in a neutral manner. He was elected unopposed to the post on Sunday.

He emphasized that he would not treat political parties or lawmakers differently based on their numerical strength in the House.

“All members are equal to me,” he said, adding that implementing suggestions from all sides in a neutral manner would be his foremost responsibility. He expressed confidence that only an impartial and independent Speaker can enhance the dignity of Parliament and its members.

Aryal also stated that despite his past political affiliation, he would sever partisan ties while serving as Speaker and ensure that the integrity of the House remains intact.

He called on lawmakers to contribute actively, constructively, and in coordination for the smooth functioning of Parliament. He also thanked senior member Arjun Narsingh KC for leading the House prior to his appointment.
