Kathmandu — Former captain of Nepal’s national cricket team and current Assistant coach Gyanendra Malla has announced his departure from all cricket-related activities. Congratulating the Nepali team that has qualified for the World Cup, he said he has stepped down from his role as assistant coach on ethical grounds and will now move forward with a different responsibility.

In a message shared on social media, Malla said, “First of all, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). Trusting someone like me, who comes from the sports sector, and nominating me as a proportional representative candidate for the upcoming election is a rare show of courage. This trust is not only an honor for me, but for the entire sporting community.”

He said that although he is entering the election campaign with the RSP, the field may be different but the goal remains the same. “It is already clear to everyone that I have stepped down from the role of assistant coach of the Nepal cricket team on ethical grounds. Cricket is an inseparable part of my life, but the time has come to serve the country in a different way,” he said.

Extending his best wishes to the Nepali cricket team heading to the World Cup, Malla added, “I have full confidence that once again you will make us all proud.” He clarified that this change is not driven by a desire for position, but by a sense of responsibility toward the future.

“Our collective support is essential to guide the dreams, hard work, and potential of our youth in the right direction. This journey is not for my personal position; it is for future generations—for the young people who dream of a beautiful and prosperous Nepal. Making the sacrifices and struggles of our youth meaningful is a shared responsibility of us all. Let us come together. Just as in the past, I ask for your trust and support today as well,” he said.

Malla said that along with his own future, the future of the country now rests on responsibility. “We may come from different backgrounds, but our dream is the same—a dignified, capable, and self-reliant Nepal. This is not my journey alone; it is our collective resolve. I believe that, as before, I will continue to receive your support and guidance,” he added.
