Spain has reached the World Cup final for the first time in 16 years. On Wednesday morning, Spain secured their spot in the final by defeating France 2-0.

Spain delivered an outstanding performance against France, scoring one goal in each half to leave France disappointed. In the 22nd minute, French player Lucas Digne fouled Lamine Yamal, resulting in a penalty which Mikel Oyarzabal converted to give Spain the lead. The 29-year-old Real Sociedad star has now scored five goals in the ongoing World Cup.

In the semifinal held at Dallas Stadium, France, a strong contender for the title, failed to maintain their usual excellent form. On the other hand, Luis de la Fuente’s team effectively neutralized France’s star-studded attack.

After taking the lead, Spain strengthened their hold on the game. Although France hoped to make a comeback in the second half after an underwhelming first half, Spain remained dominant. Pedro Porro scored the second goal in the 58th minute with a close-range shot after an excellent one-two pass with Dani Olmo.

Despite France’s efforts to get back into the game in the remaining half-hour, they could not break through Spain’s highly disciplined defense. Throughout the tournament, Spain has conceded only one goal, and their defensive performance in the semifinal was exceptional. Spain remained calm, composed, and played at a high level until the end, securing the win without any pressure.

With this loss, France’s dream of reaching a third consecutive World Cup final has ended. They will now play for third place on Saturday. Additionally, the tournament’s conclusion will mark the end of Didier Deschamps’ 14-year tenure as head coach.

Spain, on the other hand, will now prepare for the World Cup final in New Jersey. They will compete for the title against the winner of the second semifinal between England and Argentina. Spain aims to win the World Cup for the second time.
