In Kathmandu, Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa said his party will move forward with a plan aimed at nation-building over the next five years, pledging not to let the country “fall into crisis.” Speaking at an interaction program organized by the Intellectual Professionals Campaign Council, Thapa acknowledged that the party had previously failed to fully utilise opportunities and said the next five years will focus on inclusive development and structural reform.

Thapa said the party’s election manifesto includes programmes designed to deliver visible results within five years. Drawing inspiration from key moments in Nepal’s history, he said the Nepali Congress wants to fulfil the aspirations of young voters and take responsibility for building the country they seek.

He emphasised that as the country’s oldest political party, the Congress must communicate its agenda down to the grassroots level. With Nepal in need of structural reforms, Thapa said his party has entered the election with a “guarantee of reform” and a commitment to deliver measurable outcomes if given the mandate.

Thapa also asserted that nation-building requires cooperation among all political parties, but that the Congress is prepared to take a leadership role in uniting them. He added that the party has transformed itself to safeguard democracy and improve service delivery, signalling a renewed focus on responsive governance if elected.
