Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has proposed a comprehensive schedule to hold the party’s 15th General Convention from Bhadra 24 to 26, 2083 BS (September 9–11, 2026) in Kathmandu.

Thapa, who assumed the presidency following a Special General Convention in late December, presented this timeline during a Central Working Committee meeting. The proposal comes at a critical time, as rival factions led by former President Sher Bahadur Deuba and leader Shekhar Koirala are reportedly organizing against the Election Commission’s decision to recognize the recent Special General Convention. Despite this internal friction, the party’s central body is expected to approve the roadmap as early as Tuesday.

The proposed schedule prioritizes a massive organizational drive for active membership distribution and renewal. Under this plan, membership forms will be dispatched to all administrative levels between Chaitra 21 and the end of the month in 2082 BS. This will be followed by a month-long intensive campaign throughout Baisakh 2083 to distribute and update memberships across all 6,743 wards nationwide. By Jestha 15, the lists are to be forwarded from the wards to the House of Representatives constituencies and district levels, with the central leadership tasked to resolve any membership disputes and finalize the lists by Ashar 15.

The lead-up to the national event involves a series of tiered conventions scheduled throughout the month of Shrawan. According to the proposal, village and municipal ward conventions will take place on Shrawan 6, followed by village and municipal conventions on Shrawan 12. Provincial assembly constituency conventions are set for Shrawan 23, while House of Representatives constituency conventions and single-constituency district conventions will be held on Shrawan 30. Furthermore, district-level conventions are slated for Bhadra 6 and 7, with provincial conventions following on Bhadra 15 and 16. The plan also mandates that all overseas Nepali Public Relations Committee conventions be completed by the end of Shrawan, clearing the path for the grand Central General Convention in late Bhadra.
