Kathmandu — The Sher Bahadur Deuba faction of the Nepali Congress has decided to call a separate meeting of the Central Working Committee.

The decision was made during a consultative meeting held on Sunday at a hotel in Dhumbarahi, attended by leaders from the Deuba faction who are members of the party’s Central Executive Committee.

However, a date for the meeting has not yet been तय (finalized). According to leader Min Bishwakarma, the responsibility to convene the meeting has been given to Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka and other top leaders.

Bishwakarma said the meeting will be called to discuss the election review and the party’s future strategy. “Today, a consultative meeting was held under the chairmanship of Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka with members of the executive committee. The meeting decided to call a Central Working Committee meeting to discuss the election review and future strategy,” he said.

A new committee led by Gagan Thapa was formed in the Nepali Congress through a special general convention held at the end of last Poush. However, the Deuba faction has refused to recognize it and has gone to court.

The Election Commission has already recognized Thapa’s leadership as the party’s official authority. The Thapa-led Congress, which suffered a heavy defeat in the elections, is currently holding Central Working Committee meetings to review the results.

The Deuba faction had expressed dissatisfaction after the Thapa-led group began the election review process. With the Deuba faction now deciding to hold a separate meeting, the internal dispute within the Congress is likely to intensify.

Both factions, however, are awaiting a court verdict regarding the party’s official legitimacy.
