In Kathmandu — The coalition “Samajbadi Morcha” (Socialist Front), formed by the then Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist), the Janata Samajbadi Party, Nepal and others, has been left by the Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Communist Party of Nepal. The front, announced on 4 Ashad 2080, had set a goal of moving toward unity.

Accordingly, after the Maoist party, the Unified Socialists and later the faction led by Babu Ram Bhattarai from the NSP transformed into the Nepal Communist Party, the Biplav-led CPN declared it was withdrawing from the front. On Wednesday, Biplav — who is also the party’s general secretary — issued a statement saying the front’s purpose has ended, and hence his party has left the front.

The Nepali Communist Party was declared on 19 Kartik with 10 Communist factions. Although there had been preparation to include the Biplav-led CPN in the Nepali Communist Party, in the end discussions failed over positions, so Biplav did not join the unity. Currently Biplav is in discussions to go forward together with leaders like Janardan Sharma ‘Prabhakar’ (who left the Maoists), and Ghanshyam Bhusal (who left the Unified Socialists).
