Kathmandu — The Nepal Army has testified before the high-level judicial inquiry commission investigating the Gen-Z movement that took place on 23rd and 24th Bhadra, Army Chief General Ashokraj Sigdel told the commission that the army played only a security role during the events.

On Monday, General Sigdel appeared before the commission and provided his statement, explaining the army’s actions during the unrest on those two days. According to sources within the army, Sigdel told the commission that the army’s involvement was limited to maintaining peace and security and to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.

He emphasized that the Nepal Army’s deployment was strictly for ensuring public safety and the protection of lives and property. ʻThe Nepal Army only played a role in facilitating calm and preventing further escalation of the situation,’ he said in his testimony.

Earlier, the army had taken the position that it would not submit a statement to the commission. However, in light of concerns raised by some individuals and political leaders that failure to provide testimony could weaken the inquiry process, the army agreed to appear before the commission and present its account.
