ALADA celebrated International Prosthetics and Orthotic Day

Kathmandu – On the occasion of the  Prosthetics and Orthotics‑declared International Day for Artificial Limbs and Assistive Devices, the Artificial Limbs & Assistive Device Association organized a one‑day workshop on “Spinal Wellness: Orthotic Management and Rehabilitation” on Wednesday, November 5, at the Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre, Kavre, Banepa.

During the event, presentations were made by Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ram Krishna Barakoti, Director Dr. Raju Dhakal of the Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre, prosthetic & orthotic device specialists Jevindra Singh, Pramod Khadka, Pushpa Ratna Bajracharya, physiotherapist Punam Khadka and Shrujana Shrestha. Various stakeholders from this field were present.

Chief guest for the program were Dr. Rabindra Baskota, chief of the Leprosy and Disability Management Department at the Ministry of Health & Population of Nepal, and Presided over by Pralhad Prasad Parajuli, President of the ALADA. On the occasion, Dr. Baskota assured full support from his branch for the prosthetics, orthotics and assistive devices sector. Former head Dr. Prasanna Napit presented suggestions for the advancement of the sector. Concluding the event, Parajuli expressed concern that there is no educational institution in the country to train human resources in the artificial limbs manufacturing field.

The International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) recognises 5 November each year as the International Day of Prosthetics and Orthotics.
