Kathmandu – Acting Chief Election Commissioner Dr. Ram Prasad Bhandari has claimed that the general election will be held on the scheduled date.

He mentioned at the meeting of the National Assembly’s Federalism Strengthening and National Concern Committee that as of now 60 percent of preparations for the upcoming election scheduled for Falgun 21 have been completed.

He also urged the general public and political parties not to harbor doubts about the election taking place.

At the committee meeting he said: “Preparations for the election are 60 percent complete. The election will happen — there should be no doubt. There is no alternative to election.”

Since the election date was announced, the Commission has been fully engaged in the electoral process, he said, adding that the government has committed that the Commission need not have any concern regarding peace and security.

At the committee meeting on Friday, discussions were held regarding the upcoming election and its preparations.

Even though the government‑set election date is drawing near, some parties and the general public are criticizing the government for not yet creating the environment for the election. However, the political parties are preparing for the election on their own.
