Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra took to Instagram to mourn the death of veteran Nepali actor Sunil Thapa calling him a genuine  ex Pilar of support in her personal tragedy.

In her tribute that suffused with emotion and personal reflection, she remembered Thapa not just as a co-star from Mary Kom, but as a genuine pillar of support during one of the most challenging periods of her life.
Priyanka wrote, “You will always be my Coach Sir. You kept me together when I had just lost my dad, ” revealing  the profound  bond the duo had during and after the making of Mary Kom – a biographical sports drama where Sunil Thapa played the role of Mary Kom’s coach, M. Narjit Singh. In the movie, his character is tough yet nurturing: a mentor who pushes the young boxer to her limits, believing in her talent even when she struggles. That on-screen relationship of discipline, encouragement, and trust translated into real life for Priyanka.

Priyanka’s father, Dr. Ashok Chopra, passed away in 2013, around the time Mary Kom was being filmed. It was in that vulnerable phase that Thapa’s presence became meaningful to Priyanka beyond the script. Her words, “You loved me and helped me through many tough days without even realizing,” suggest that his warmth and kindness emerged organically — not as a rehearsed role, but as genuine human support that helped her stay grounded.

Her tribute also acknowledged the sorrow of his passing: “Gone too young but never forgotten,” she wrote, reminding us that art doesn’t just create stories — it can forge lifelong connections. In celebrating Thapa’s legacy, Priyanka recognized how his influence shaped not only her performance in Mary Kom but also offered solace when she was “broken.”
