Kathmandu — The Nepali Congress has removed Krishna Prasad Sitaula as the leader of its National Assembly parliamentary party and appointed Kamala Pant in his place.

On Wednesday, parliamentary party leader Bhishma Raj Angdembe removed Sitaula and nominated Pant as the new leader. According to the party statute, the leader of the parliamentary party in the House of Representatives has the authority to appoint the National Assembly party leader.

Sitaula belongs to the faction of former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, while Pant is aligned with party president Gagan Thapa’s faction. Pant had openly supported holding a special general convention, whereas Sitaula had opposed it.
