Biratnagar — Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has stated that their party maintains a firm stance that a judicial investigation commission should be formed to probe the incidents, including vandalism of state structures, that occurred during the Gen Z movement on Bhadra 24.

Speaking briefly to journalists at the airport in Biratnagar on Wednesday, he warned the government that if their demand for forming such a commission is not fulfilled, they also know how to make it happen. “Our position is that the government must form a judicial investigation commission. We have demanded it even now. If the government does not fulfill the demand, we know how to get it fulfilled,” Thapa said.

He added that although their voice as an opposition party may not be very loud, it remains responsible.

Thapa also accused the government of recently acting on whims and violating laws. “We have drawn the government’s attention to the fact that it has been breaching and violating laws based on its own interests,” he said. “We have been issuing responsible warnings. We believe the government will listen; if it does not, we know how to escalate the matter.”

He further said that discussions are ongoing with all sides to promote unity within the party.
