Kathmandu – In a swift move and enforcement of accountability, Prime Minister Balendra Shah  dismissed Minister for Labor, Employment, and Social Security, Dipak Kumar Saha, Thursday.

The dismissal came two days after Minister Sah’s wife Junu Shrestha was rehabilitated to the Insurance board months after she had lost the position. The Ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party’s disciplinary committee took suo moto cognisance of the issue , and recommended that the role of the Minister in his wife ‘s rehabilitation was objectionable and unethical.

In fact, as a beginning of the new Practice, Party Chief Rabi Lamichhane endorsed the Party discipline committee’s  findings and suggested that Minister Sah’s conduct was not in consistent with the dignity of the office he held and he should be removed.  The committee found that  Sah had involved his wife in the regular operations of the Health Insurance Board, a body that had been largely inactive. Chief Lamichhane stated that such actions caused significant damageto the party’s image, principles, and moral standards.

In his letter to the Prime Minister, Lamichhane invoked Article 69 of the RSP’s statute, which grants the party the “Right to Recall” representatives who fail to uphold the dignity of their office.
Furthermore, the party recommended a formal warning for Health and Population Minister Nisha Mehta  who recommended Junu Shrstha ‘s rehabilitation, for failing to exercise necessary oversight regarding the board’s activities.Press Secretary Deepa Dahal confirmed that the Prime Minister acted immediately upon the RSP’s findings to remove Sah from his post and issue the warning to Minister Mehta. This development marks a notable application of the RSP’s internal disciplinary mechanisms, signaling a shift in how coalition partners manage ministerial conduct and nepotism within the cabinet.
