Kathmandu — Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has urged that key national issues be resolved and a broad political consensus forged before moving ahead with the upcoming elections, framing its support for the former King Gyanendra Shah’s Democracy Day message as conditional on initiating a wider national dialogue. The party said stability and unity must come first and that elections should not deepen divisions but reflect a shared political understanding.

A meeting of the party’s central office bearers held at its Bhrikutimandap headquarters was chaired by vice-chair Buddhiman Tamang in the absence of chair Rajendra Lingden, who is outside the Valley for election activities. Senior leaders, including Prakash Chandra Lohani and Kamal Thapa, were present.

In its statement, the RPP said it welcomed the former king’s call for consensus and regarded it as a basis for urging the government and political parties to engage in dialogue and an all-party conference to address the country’s challenges before polls, rather than moving straight to elections. It described its support for the king’s position as contingent on such a broader debate among stakeholders.

The statement was issued by spokesperson Mohan Kumar Shrestha.
