Kathmandu — Gokul Baskota, a leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) and former minister, has remarked that political leaders who fail to make timely decisions risk losing historic opportunities, leaving nothing but regret in the end.

Expressing his views through a Facebook post on Monday morning, Baskota took particular aim at recent political moves by Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda,” chair of the CPN (Maoist Centre).

Baskota said that leadership must responsibly and accountably make use of the rare and decisive opportunities presented by time, warning that repeated failures to do so force leaders to face setbacks again and again.

He described Prachanda’s recent activities and statements as an “emotional plea,” claiming that the Maoist leader’s political options are now narrowing.

In his post, Baskota wrote, “After repeatedly missing the rare, historic leadership opportunities provided by time with trust and accountability, only a moment of regret remains. Comrade Prachanda’s latest emotional appeal is just that.”

Further analyzing the situation, Baskota suggested that under the current circumstances, Prachanda’s final options may be limited to either halting elections or attempting a last-minute “leftist embrace” driven by the interests of a few close associates.
