Kathmandu — Nepali Congress spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat said that the second special general convention currently underway in Kathmandu is not in the interest of either the party or the country. He made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking with journalists ahead of a meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee.

Mahat said the party leadership is engaging in flexible dialogue to promote unity and emphasized that the party will not split because of its leaders. “We want the party to move forward united. Discussions are ongoing,” he said. “The party will not be divided. That is not in the interest of the party, not in the interest of the Nepali people, and not in the interest of Nepal.” He added that efforts are being made with the utmost flexibility to keep the party together and appealed to supporters of the special general convention to also show flexibility for the sake of unity.

Mahat’s comments come amid deepening internal disputes within the Nepali Congress over the convening of the special general convention called by party general secretaries, a move opposed by some senior leaders who argue it could undermine party cohesion and distract from national priorities.
