Kathmandu — Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the party in recent times has become preoccupied with power-centric politics lacking clear purpose.

Presenting a contemporary political report at the closing session of the special general convention on Monday, Thapa argued that while the Congress has never compromised its core values and principles, it has recently been absorbed in politics focused chiefly on power and position.

He acknowledged that this trend has raised serious questions about the party’s relevance. “We reject the extreme pursuit of power and position that treats securing office as the sole objective and winning elections as the party’s ultimate victory — forsaking the ideals, principles, and values that define our politics,” Thapa said.
