Kathmandu — The special general convention of the Nepali Congress has begun. The event was launched following a call by General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwoprakash Sharma.

The convention is taking place at Bhrikutimandap under the chairmanship of Congress Kathmandu president Subuj Baniya. Leaders and supporters from across the country have filled the venue, creating a packed atmosphere.

Despite repeated attempts by the party’s establishment faction to block the special general convention, it has gone ahead in accordance with Article 17(2) of the party statute after more than 40 percent of elected delegates demanded it.

Even though the establishment faction instructed district leaders and representatives not to come to Kathmandu, the convention, scheduled for Sunday and Monday, has officially started.
