In Kathmandu, seventeen fraternal groups affiliated with the Nepali Congress have issued a joint statement opposing the proposed special general convention, urging the party to concentrate on the upcoming national elections. The appeal came after party general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwprakash Sharma called for the special convention.

The statement noted that the current political and social situation is challenging and stressed the need for the party to move forward in unity to help the nation overcome its crises. It also drew attention to the fact that the date for the regular general convention has already been set for April 11–14, with a national election scheduled for February 21, leaving no alternative but to remain unified. The statement called on all leaders, workers and well-wishers to exercise restraint, act responsibly and pursue consensus during this sensitive period.
