Kathmandu — Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has said that calling a special convention by the end of Poush to strengthen party unity and confidence has become mandatory.

In a message issued on the occasion of the 49th National Unity and Reconciliation Day, he noted that the confidence of the Congress can only come from party unity, and that there must be a shared platform where differing views can be expressed. According to him, that shared platform is a special convention.

Thapa clarified that not only as per party statute but also to fulfill the party’s unity and national responsibility, a special convention has become unavoidable.

“The Nepali Congress, with a sense of responsibility, is seeking a point of confidence. That confidence comes only from our unity. And what brings unity? Not from prohibition, not by ignoring different views — but only from using a shared platform where differing opinions can be expressed. That platform in today’s context is the special convention of Congress.” he wrote on social media.

He added that calling a special convention by the end of Poush is not just mandatory under the statute but has become essential for party unity and confidence.

He also called on all Congress workers to move forward unitedly and extended his greetings on National Unity and Reconciliation Day.
