Kathmandu — Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has given his statement before the commission investigating the Gen-Z movement. He reached the commission’s office at Singha Durbar on Monday to record his testimony. In his written statement submitted to the commission, he said that during the September 23 Gen-Z movement he did not give any written or verbal order to use force, and that there was no legal provision allowing him to issue such an order. He also claimed that he instructed security agencies to act in a way that would avoid casualties.

Lekhak further stated that there was widespread infiltration into the Gen-Z protests on September 23 and 24. He asserted that the vandalism and arson on September 24 were not merely the result of anger and impulse. He said those involved should face strict action, and that the Gen-Z uprising was “hijacked by anti-democratic elements,” leading to the unfortunate situation.

He has also asked the government to clarify why his passport has been restricted or why he has been assigned a designated residence.
