Kathmandu — Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has formally announced his candidacy for the post of party chairperson at the upcoming 15th General Convention.
Addressing a program in Kathmandu on Monday, he said he is the party’s candidate for chair and is ready to take on the leadership. Thapa emphasized that the convention should be an opportunity not just for leadership change but to revitalize the party as a whole.

He also expressed strong objections to delays in preparations and the collection of active member details, saying required information from lower levels has not been submitted on time and signaling this may be a deliberate obstruction.

Thapa repeated his firm stance that the convention must be completed before the upcoming general elections, saying he has already clearly communicated this to party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, and affirmed he is ready to bear whatever cost is necessary to achieve that. He argued the party cannot contest elections without holding the convention.
