Kathmandu – At the crowded Bhrikutimandap grounds during the UML general convention, discontent has flared among KP Sharma Oli’s faction over party leadership nominations.

Pradeep Gyawali, who was seen as a candidate for the general secretary post from the Oli camp, showed dissatisfaction after not receiving a ticket for that position. Despite efforts by team members including Bishnu Paudel, Bishnu Rimal, and Prithvi Subba Gurung to persuade him to stay, Gyawali refused and left the convention site. He had been given a ticket for vice‑chair from Oli’s side, but reportedly left the grounds after stating that without the general secretary nomination, he would remain only a central member.

From the Oli camp, Shankar Pokhrel has filed candidacy for the general secretary post.

Rajendra Gautam, who had also sought the secretary post from Oli’s faction, registered as an independent candidate after not receiving a ticket, while Raghuji Pant, another aspirant for vice‑chair, has filed his candidacy under the Ishwar Pokhrel group after failing to secure a ticket from Oli’s camp.
