Kathmandu – Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki has expressed his complaint that the police always end up on the frontlines in all kinds of protests in the country. While inaugurating the newly reconstructed building of the Boudha Police Office — damaged by arson during the Gen-Z protests — on Sunday, he said that the police are treated as useful when needed and discarded when not.

He also directed subordinate officers to work in partnership with citizens to stop the tendency to attack police and maintain peace and order.

He said, “Fundamentally, police structures were again destroyed this time as well. In Nepal’s history, in previous political and other kinds of movements, only the police always end up in the firing line. They are sometimes turned into something useful when needed and into something useless when not.” He emphasized that through a partnership between citizens and police, such tendencies should be ended and peace and security maintained, and gave instructions to police staff accordingly.
