Kathmandu — Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has called a meeting of the party’s current office-bearers and former office-bearers.

Although vice-president Purna Bahadur Khadka had attempted to set a date for the general convention, no consensus was reached — prompting Deuba to convene the meeting himself.

The meeting is scheduled for today at 1 p.m. at Deuba’s residence in Maharajgunj.
The main agenda will be to determine the date for the upcoming general convention and to discuss other timely issues. Leaders including Shekhar Koirala and outgoing home-minister Ramesh Lekhak are expected to participate.

With Deuba taking direct initiative, it is now hoped that the deadlock over the convention date will be resolved. The aim of the meeting is to end the internal stalemate and set the convention timetable with broad agreement across party factions.
