KP Sharma Oli Demands Immediate Release of Medical Professional Durga Prasai

Kathmandu – KP Sharma Oli, Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal -Unified Marxist Leninist and former Prime Minister, has demanded the immediate release of medical professional Durga Prasai.

Addressing a valley-level gathering of local representatives in Kathmandu on Wednesday, the former Prime Minister criticized the government for arresting Prasai at night.

Speaking at the meeting, Oli said, “Is it not allowed even to speak? The Human Rights Commission has also stated that no one should be imprisoned just for speaking. The Human Rights Commission has already said this.” Oli alleged that the government arrested Durga Prasai overnight based on a video he had released in the afternoon.

Challenging the government, Oli asked, “Durga Prasai released a video. It came out in the afternoon, and he was arrested in the evening. Does this government have any response to that video? Does it have an answer for Durga Prasai?” He emphasized that no one should be arrested simply for expressing their opinion. “Is releasing a video a crime? What is this government doing at night arbitrarily? What would have happened if he had been arrested in the morning? This government is making a mockery of the situation,” he added.

The government had arrested Prasai from his residence in Bhaktapur late Monday night while he was sleeping.
