Kathmandu – The obstacle to waste disposal has now been lifted temporarily after a few days of suspension. Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising visited the Bancharedanda Landfill Site on Sunday, discussed with local residents and removed the waste-disposal blockade for the time being.

Minister Ghising committed to fulfilling the locals’ demands within 15 days. On that basis, the residents permitted the disposal of waste for the next 15 days.

Waste-collection in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and neighbouring municipalities had been halted for nearly two weeks. Representatives including Mayor Balendra Shah and others had been engaging with locals to find a solution. Ultimately, Minister Ghising took responsibility and stepped in to address the waste-management issue.

According to local representatives, Ghising pledged to meet the locally-elected representatives of Kakani and those living around the site and to complete the agreement within 15 days.
