Kathmandu – Sher Bahadur Deuba, the president of the Nepali Congress, announced that he will hand over his leadership at the party’s upcoming 15th general convention.

Speaking at the party’s central working committee meeting on Tuesday, Deuba stated that a new leader, apart from himself, will assume the party presidency after the next general convention.

He emphasized that just as there isn’t always the same head of the family at home, he too intends to pass on the party leadership.

“In discussions around the party’s internal dynamics, the upcoming 15th general convention, and the transfer of leadership, I wish to emphasize that ‘a household doesn’t always have the same leader,’ and similarly, our party shouldn’t have a perpetual president,” Deuba said. “Regarding my position, I have previously expressed that, as per our statutory provisions and my personal political intentions, I will formally transfer the party leadership through the 15th general convention. There is no doubt that someone else will take on the role of president after this convention.”
