India wins second test match against England

In the ongoing five-match Test series between England and India, India claimed a resounding victory over England in the second Test, winning by 336 runs.

In the Birmingham Test, India set a formidable target of 608 runs for England to chase. On the final day, the host team was bowled out for 271 runs, allowing India to secure a dominant win.

With this victory, the series is now level at 1-1. The third Test between the two teams is scheduled to begin on July 10 at Lord’s.

In the second Test, Indian captain Shubman Gill delivered an exceptional performance, scoring 161 runs in the second innings. He had already contributed 269 runs in the first innings, making him the first Indian player to score over 400 runs in a single Test. Collectively, India amassed a total of 1,014 runs across both innings, marking the first time in their Test history that they scored over a thousand runs in a single match.

Apart from Gill, India’s KL Rahul added 55 runs, Rishabh Pant scored 65, and Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 69. India declared their innings at 427 for 6, with an overall lead of 608 runs.

On the final day, England resumed play at 72 for 3 but were ultimately bowled out for 271. Akash Deep was the standout bowler for India, taking six wickets. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar each picked up a wicket.

England required 536 runs to win on the last day, whereas India needed just 7 wickets. Ultimately, India emerged victorious. Jamie Smith top-scored for England with 88 runs, while Ben Duckett added 25, Ollie Pope made 24, Harry Brooks was dismissed for 23, captain Ben Stokes contributed 33, and Brydon Carse scored 38, while Soib Bashir remained not out on 12.

In the first innings, England had posted a total of 407 runs, led by Harry Brooks’ 158 and Jamie Smith’s 184. However, their inability to sustain a full day in the second innings cost them a potential draw.
