Moscow – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will hold “important” talks on Monday with President Vladimir Putin, just 48 hours after the United States struck Iran’s key nuclear facilities.

Moscow is a significant ally of Tehran, but since Israel launched its series of strikes on June 13, Russia has not visibly provided military assistance or assurances—although it has publicly expressed condemnation and criticism of the attacks.

Despite denouncing the Israeli and U.S. airstrikes, Moscow has not offered any military cooperation, nor fulfilled obligations under its previous strategic partnership agreement with Tehran.

“Consultation with Russia in this new, dangerous context could clearly be very significant,” Araghchi said after arriving in Moscow, according to Russian state media.

State news agency IRNA reported on Sunday that following the joint American–Israeli military action against Iran, Araghchi plans to consult with President Putin and other senior Russian officials about the unfolding regional and international situation.

Initially, Putin had offered to act as a mediator between Iran and Israel.
