Nepal Army seems not to have accepted Republican Order: UML leader

Kathmandu- A senior leader of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist has emphasised on the need of democratising Nepal Army which he said still looked above republic order.

Participating in the discussion on the annual budget, UML parliamentarian from Lamjung, Prithvi Subba Gurung said the Nepal army
still does not seem to have accepted the Republic order in the country. and it must not be allowed that liberty.

He said the army as an institution was extracting various benefits through contracts, trade and business which could be a big threat to
democracy. “what if its intent goes the other way?, he said in his over 29 minutes speech in the House today.

Gurung, a former Chief Minister of the Gandaki province also said that the army is not be seen as a synonym of the National security as a
whole. ‘Yes, Nepal army is the biggest organ of the state dealing with the National security, but there are other organs including police,
armed police force as well as the National Investigation Department as well.’
