Election results for five Indian states, including West Bengal, are being announced today. The counting of votes for the assembly elections held in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry is set to begin at 8:15 AM.

These elections are considered highly significant for Indian politics. In particular, the fierce competition between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by Mamata Banerjee and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal has captured everyone’s attention.

Mamata Banerjee has been in power in West Bengal for the past 15 years. While she is confident of returning to power for a fourth term, the BJP is attempting to form a government in the state for the first time.

Vote counting will take place today for 293 out of 294 seats in West Bengal. The Election Commission has stated that the counting for the Falta constituency will occur only after re-polling on May 21. The counting process, starting at 8 AM, will first tally postal ballots, followed by the opening of electronic voting machines (EVMs).

Both TMC and BJP have claimed they will secure a majority in this election. However, various exit polls have shown BJP slightly ahead. Mamata Banerjee has dismissed these surveys, asserting that her party will win more than 200 seats.

In Assam, the BJP alliance is striving to retain power, while in Tamil Nadu, Dravidian politics is once again at the forefront. In Kerala, there is intense competition between the Left Democratic Front and the Congress-led alliance. Analysts have noted that coalition politics has also made the election results in Puducherry intriguing.

According to political analysts, today’s results could also influence national politics in the future. The outcome in West Bengal, in particular, is seen as a matter of prestige for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.
