President Donald Trump has indicated that the U.S. might launch another strong military attack on Iran tonight. The U.S. is preparing for renewed strikes after Tehran, along with its Gulf allies, targeted ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, Trump said, “We hit them hard last night. We might hit them hard again tonight. I want to give them a small warning. We will launch a severe attack tonight, but ultimately, we have to see how things progress.”

Trump reiterated his claim of having initiated regime change in Iran. Previously, he had said Tehran’s new leadership was more pragmatic than before, but he has now criticized them as “crazy.”

In a misleading statement, Trump referred to Iran as the “Islamic Republic of Japan” and claimed that during the conflict, 111 missiles were fired at an American aircraft carrier, all of which the U.S. intercepted.

Trump also stated that the new agreement he made with Iran is far more effective than the nuclear deal made by former President Barack Obama’s administration in 2015. He said, “Our agreement completely prevents Iran from developing nuclear weapons, whereas Obama’s deal paved the way for nuclear armament.”

Just hours earlier, Trump had announced that the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran had ended. On Tuesday night, the U.S. reported attacking more than 80 military targets in Iran.

In response, Iran claimed to have targeted U.S. military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait. The latest U.S. attack followed an assault on three oil tankers in Hormuz, although Iran has not directly accepted responsibility for those incidents.
